QUI SOMMES-NOUS ?

La société CINEMATOGRAPHIQUE LYRE est une société familiale fondée à Paris en 1952 par Alberto BARSANTI avec l’idée de monter des coproductions avec l’Italie, son pays d’origine.

Entre 1958 et 1972, la LYRE a ainsi participé à une grande variété de films des “années d’or” du cinéma européen : des classiques (tels que "L'AVVENTURA" de Michelangelo ANTONIONI, "AUSTERLITZ" d’Abel GANCE ou encore "MAIN BASSE SUR LA VILLE" de Francesco ROSI), mais aussi des comédies et des films de genre (comme “LA BATAILLE DE MARATHON” de Jacques TOURNEUR et Bruno VAILATI, “LES TROIS VISAGES DE LA PEUR” de Mario BAVA…).

En 1987, au décès d’Alberto, c’est Maria, sa veuve, qui a repris la société. En 1999, Patricia, leur fille, s’est jointe à elle. Ensemble, elles ont étoffé le catalogue en acquérant des œuvres comme “DANSE MACABRE”.

Avec la volonté de transmettre aux jeunes générations ce patrimoine culturel dont elle a la charge, Patricia continue aujourd’hui à restaurer les films de son catalogue. Mais le coût des travaux est élevé du fait des exigences techniques et de l’âge des éléments et la LYRE ne pourrait les assumer faire sans le soutien précieux de diverses institutions (CNC, Cinémathèque française, Cinémathèque de Toulouse, Cineteca Nazionale de Rome, Cineteca de Bologne...) ou des contributeurs des campagnes de financement participatif.

Le projet “ENSEMBLE, FAISONS REVIVRE DANSE MACABRE”est la seconde campagne que LYRE lance. Le succès de la première pour “PARIS EST TOUJOURS PARIS” de Luciano EMMER a permis de ressortir le film en salles à l’été 2019.

WHO ARE WE?

Between 1958 and 1972, LYRE has taken part in a wide variety of films from the "golden years" of European cinema: classics (such as "L'AVVENTURA" by Michelangelo ANTONIONI, "THE BATTLE OF AUSTERLITZ" by Abel GANCE, "HANDS OVER THE CITY" by Francesco ROSI…), but also comedies and genre films (such as "THE GIANT OF MARATHON" by Jacques TOURNEUR and Bruno VAILATI, "BLACK SABBATH" by Mario BAVA...).

In 1987, when Alberto died, his widow Maria took over the company. In 1999, Patricia, their daughter, joined her. Together they expanded the catalogue with works such as "CASTLE OF BLOOD".

With the desire to pass on to younger generations this cultural heritage for which she is responsible, Patricia continues today to restore the films in her catalogue. But the cost of the work is high due to the technical requirements and the age of the elements and LYRE could not do it alone without the precious support of various institutions (CNC, Cinémathèque française, Cinémathèque de Toulouse, Cineteca Nazionale of Rome, Cineteca of Bologna...) or of crowdfunders.

The project "TOGETHER, LET’S REVIVE CASTLE OF BLOOD !" is the second campaign that LYRE is launching. The first one, for "PARIS IS ALWAYS PARIS" by Luciano EMMER, was successfully launched in 2018 and has allowed the film to be re-released in theatres in the summer of 2019.
