Jacques Hondelatte (1942-2002), a pioneer of digital architecture from the end of the 1980s, and winner of the National Grand Prix of Architecture in 1998 is one of the most influential figures of french contemporary architecture. Its work and pedagogy inspired and inspires today several generations of designers, Jean Nouvel to Rudy Riccioti, through Anne Lacaton and Jean-Philippe Vassal, Duncan Lewis or Christophe Hutin. Many of them world acclaimed.

In the last two years our team - El atelier - has designed and organised several events to continue to grow the awareness of his work and theories.

The two most important events that we were able to do were:

• Its first exhibition in London. BETTS PROJECT Gallery (2017-18).

THE PROJECT

We are pleased to announce that we are currently preparing a daring multimedia installation dedicated to the proposal for Tribunal de Grande Instance of Bordeaux made by Jacques Hondelatte.

Thus, the architect wins the competition and was unanimously approved in November 1990. However, the laureate is removed from the award of the project by the cancellation of the competition and it caused a great deal of emotion and indignation in the profession (see the articles published in SudOuest and numbers 23 and 50 of the D'Architecture journal).

Indeed, this project, a reflection on the modernity of justice came from a particularly rich collaboration with the magistrates and the various actors of the contest, defined a radical project which Jean Nouvel describes as "close to the miracle"

This installation/exhibition will take place during the European Heritage Days in Bordeaux from 14 to 16 September 2018. It will be exclusively devoted to the project of the extension of the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Bordeaux designed by the architect between 1988 and 1990. We have a great ambition in this project, and that is why we seek your help. We are proposing a complex multimedia installation, revolving around medias like video, sound, and models of JH TGI proposal.

The founding gathered by this platform will allow us to found the final production and edition of the videos, reproduce the model of the TGI, as well as to guarantee the quality of the installations that will inhabit the space of the exposure.

THE TEAM

El atelier is an interdisciplinary group, based on the production of architectural projects.

Blending ideas from: theory, philosophy, art, design, and architecture. We define our practice as an open studio, that looks forward to collaborate and extend its practice to new forms.

The exhibition will be designed by El ATELIER team.

Nous avons le plaisir de vous annoncer que nous préparons actuellement la prochaine exposition consacrée à l’oeuvre de l’architecte bordelais Jacques Hondelatte (1942-2002). Cette exposition aura lieu lors des Journées Européenes du Patrimoine à Bordeaux du 14 au 16 Septembre 2018. Elle sera exclusivement consacrée au projet de l’extension du Tribunal de Grande Instance de Bordeaux et de l’École de nationale de la Magistrature conçu par l’architecte entre 1988 et 1990.

Sujet

Cette exposition est l’opportunité de communiquer au grand publique l’oeuvre de l’architecte ainsi que de revenir sur un projet majeur de l’architecte qui occupe une place particulière dans l’histoire de l’architecture bordelaise.

En effet, ce projet, fruit d’une réflexion sur la modernité de la Justice fut issu d’une collaboration particulièrement riche avec les magistrats et les différents acteurs du concours, définissait un projet radical que Jean Nouvel décris comme « proche du miracle ». Ainsi, l’architecte remporte la compétition et fait l’unanimité en novembre 1990. Cependant, le lauréat se voit retiré l’attribution du projet par l’annulation du concours pour des raisons qui avaient fait beaucoup parlé du projet à l’époque , et suscité beaucoup d’émotion et d’indignation dans la profession (voir les articles parus dans le SudOuest et les numéros 23 et 50 de la revue D’Architecture) .

Un second concours avait été lancé auquel ne pouvaient pas participer les équipes du second tour et désigne Rogers comme le nouveau lauréat en 1992.

À la suite des deux expos à Londres Betts Project (2017-2018) et à Arc en rêve (2018), on reparle du projet de Jacques Hondelatte. Il apparait donc essentiel de se saisir pleinement de l’opportunité de monter le projet de Jacques Hondelatte au grand public de la meilleure manière possible.

En effet, nous portons une grande ambition dans ce projet, et c’est pourquoi nous sollicitons votre aide et avons créé une collecte, qui nous permettra notamment de reproduire la maquette du TGI, ainsi que de garantir la qualité des installations qui habiteront l’espace de l’exposition.

Nous espérons vivement que vous nous aiderez à donner la meilleure visibilité au projet de JH.

Ce fond permettra de préparer cette exposition ainsi que la prochaine étape à Paris.

We already have the site of the exhibition, and the supporting technical conditions for the video projection.

The risk is to gather enough fund to finish the video edition and the model re-edition, which will be produced by an external team.
